Andrew C. (Andy) Briscoe is the President and CEO of The Sugar Association, Inc. Appointed at the April 2003 annual meeting of the Board of Directors, Briscoe brings a strong nutrition and food policy background to the Association. Mr. Briscoe joined the Association in 2002 as the Director of Public Policy. For nine years prior, he has served as Director of Public Policy and Vice President of the Salt Institute, an association representing companies producing food salt throughout the United States and worldwide.
Mr. Briscoe has worked with key food regulatory agencies and organizations, testified during the Healthy People 2010 Consortium hearings organized by the Department of Health and Human Services on dietary and nutritional issues, testified at the Food and Drug Administration’s Obesity Workshop, and represented industry during the Dietary Guidelines process, and Food Guide Pyramid review and update. And he has worked with FDA on accuracy in labeling issues related to sugar and other sweeteners used in the U.S.
Andy presently works with other associations in the food and nutrition industry including the American Beverage Association (formerly the National Soft Drink Association), the Snack Food Association, the National Confectioners Association, the International Dairy Food Association, the Grocery Manufacturers Association, the National Restaurant Association, and the International Food Information Council. He has been a member of the Nutrition and Food Safety Education Task Force in Washington, DC, and a member of The National Press Club for over 15 years and he speaks on food and nutrition issues.
He serves as a Board member of World Sugar Research Organization based in the U.K representing 21 countries.
In addition, Mr. Briscoe has directed successful federal and state public affairs and public policy initiatives working with Congress, both Bush administrations, numerous regulatory agencies, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Briscoe prepared for his career with a Bachelor of Science degree at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. He serves on the U.S. Chamber’s Committee of 100 top association executives in Washington, DC. And he received the Certified Association Executive (CAE) recognition from the American Society of Association Executives.
